The story of Kostaki Mansion

The story of Kostaki Mansion

Kostaki Mansion was built in the early 20th century for banker Konstantin Theofilaktos. Many of its building materials came from Italy, while the architects’ names have not been identified.

After Theofilaktos went bankrupt in 1917, his property, including the mansion, was seized. The Nemlioğlu family later bought the building. It served as a headquarters during the Turkish War of Independence.

Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, his wife Latife Hanım and their party stayed at the mansion from 15 to 17 September 1924, during Atatürk’s first visit to Trabzon. The building’s place in the city’s past also connects it with Trabzon Castle and the old town on foot.
